Abstract

The present article examines the normative views of Anastas Granitski during the period 1859 – 1878 – a key decade in the process of forming the Modern Bulgarian literary language. The results of the comparative analysis of the linguistic norms reflected in two works by Granitski are presented, as well as the evolution of the author’s views on the paths that the formation of the New Bulgarian literary language should take during the Renaissance era. The analysis reveals Granitskiʼs contribution to the creation of a supradialectal, pan-Bulgarian language form that would serve as the basis of the modern literary language. The object of observation are the bilingual phrasebooks: French-Bulgarian Conversations and Rules for the Pronunciation of French Letters (1859) and Russian-Bulgarian Conversations (1878). The subject of analysis are nouns and personal pronouns.
