Abstract
This paper constitutes a concise sketch on the concept of communication itself, focusing on the importance of both context and rhetoric in the art of effec-tive or persuasive speaking or writing, offering a brief analysis on how commu-nication and persuasion have been understood throughout history. Moreover, we will try to draw up the concepts of both “politic humor” and “politicized humor” in order to clarify the kind of texts they stand for.
In addition, this work seeks to justify the vast interest of the knowledge and use of humor- based strategies together with political texts while teaching and learning Spanish as a foreign language so that the speakers are able to not only demonstrate their linguistic level of a foreign language but also their social, cultural and historical understanding of the countries where Spanish is spoken.
Key words: politics, humor, foreign language teaching, linguistics, persuasion
