Abstract

The article examines the ways in which new words are created in the contemporary Bulgarian language. The analysed examples are excerpted from promotional materials and product ads and represent names of new products and various household appliances. Ways to create new words are very varied – English words are directly used, words from domestic or foreign ingredients are being constructed. The main problem is the lack of uniform principles in this active word-writing.

Key words: Neologisms, semantic motivation of the word, borrowed words, affixation, compound words, generative principles of word formation
